Mashemeji Derby Rescheduled for June 2 in Homa Bay

The second leg of the Mashemeji Derby has been rescheduled to June 2nd and will be played at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.
In a statement released by Gor Mahia, the home side confirmed that the much anticipated clash against arch-rivals AFC Leopards, originally set for May 11th at Kasarani Stadium, will now take place just a day after the Madaraka Day celebrations at the same venue. The match had been postponed due to the unavailability of Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums. The Ulinzi Complex, proposed by FKF as an alternative venue, was ruled out as it would have required the match to be played behind closed doors or with limited fan access.
The first leg of the derby, held at Nyayo National Stadium on March 30th, ended in a goalless draw, with both teams squandering multiple scoring chances. That match also faced two postponements before finally being played.
For Gor Mahia, this derby is a must win to keep their title hopes alive. Any result other than a win could hand the title to Kenya Police FC. Gor will also be hoping that Shabana can take points off Police in their upcoming fixture to keep the title race open.
Sirkal, as Gor Mahia are fondly known, will conclude their season against the high flying 'Serikali' Police FC. Only two dramatic instances remain possible: either Gor form a guard of honour for the new champions before the game, or they pull off a last gasp title snatch in that game.
