Omedi, Kiwanuka shine in debut season as APR clinch Rwanda Premier League title

APR FC were crowned the 2024/2025 Rwanda Premier League champions on Wednesday after a commanding 3-1 victory over Musanze FC at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

The star of the match was Bosco Rubonneka, who netted a sensational hat-trick to lead his team to glory. With this win, APR FC secured the title with 67 points from 30 matches, finishing ahead of their rivals Rayon Sport, who took second place with 63 points.

The army side had already added the Peace Cup to their trophy collection earlier in the season, capping off a dominant campaign. This victory marks APR FC’s qualification for the prestigious 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup.

Last year, the team finished as runners-up in the CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup after falling short against Zambia’s Red Arrows FC in the final. For Ugandan internationals Denis Omedi and Hakim Kiwanuka, this season will forever be etched in their memories.

Both players marked their debut season with APR FC in spectacular fashion, helping the team secure a historic doubl Omedi, who joined from Kitara FC, and Kiwanuka, who made the move from SC Villa, were instrumental throughout the campaign.

Their success is even more special as it came just months after joining the club. In addition to Omedi and Kiwanuka, fellow Uganda Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga also played a key role in the team’s triumph, further strengthening the squad’s bond and dominance this season.

The celebrations following the victory were nothing short of memorable, with a festive atmosphere at Amahoro Stadium. The crowd was treated to thrilling live performances by renowned Ugandan musicians Jose Chameleone and Weasel Manizo, adding a special touch to a night that will live long in the memories of APR FC fans.

As APR FC celebrates their well-earned victory, Omedi, Kiwanuka, and the entire squad can reflect on a debut season that no one will forget. With eyes now set on continental glory, APR FC are primed for another exciting chapter in their rich history.
