Manchester City’s summer reset has accelerated again with the arrival of Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, the €100 million signing that now stands as the clearest statement yet of the club’s new direction under Enzo Maresca.

Lille confirmed on 26 August that an agreement had been reached with City for the transfer of the 18-year-old, ending the teenager’s rise at his formative club after 96 senior appearances. Bouaddi arrives in England after a breakout spell in France and a prominent World Cup with Morocco, and he is immediately available for City’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Friday, 28 August.

The timing matters as much as the fee. City are entering the closing days of the transfer window in the middle of a heavy squad overhaul, with Maresca trying to shape a new-look side while competitive fixtures are already under way. Bouaddi’s move has become the headline act because it addresses the area of the squad that has undergone the biggest disruption. That scale of turnover has increased the pressure on City to integrate Bouaddi quickly rather than treating him purely as a long-term investment.
